⚖️ Disciplinary Actions and Punishments

The Departmental Discipline Committee (DDC)/ Proctorial Committee (PC) or any committee authorized by the competent authority/ enquiry committee constituted for the purpose shall investigate cases of student indiscipline. Depending upon the seriousness and nature of misconduct, one or more of the following disciplinary actions may be imposed:

  • Monetary fine as decided by the competent authority.
  • Deduction of marks or reduction in grades related to General Proficiency/Conduct.
  • Collective or group fine may be imposed where individual responsibility cannot be determined for any act of indiscipline. Any student or group involved in damaging, stealing, or misusing college or hostel property shall be liable to pay the assessed amount for repair, replacement, cleaning, or recovery of losses along with additional penalty, if imposed.
  • Reprimand on Record (RR):
An official warning may be issued to the concerned student(s) against repeating such misconduct in future, with or without monetary fine or deduction in marks. The student and parent/guardian may also be required to submit an undertaking/bond of good conduct for the remaining duration of study in the institution.
  • Conduct Probation (CP):
Under this action, the student(s) shall receive a strict warning regarding future behavior along with penalties, if applicable. The order may further specify that repetition of misconduct can result in withholding of character certificate, restriction from campus placement activities, suspension, or rustication for a specified period. The student and parent/guardian may also be required to execute a bond of good behavior and satisfactory academic performance for the remaining stay in the institution.
  • Rustication/Suspension:
A student may be rusticated or suspended for a period ranging from one semester/trimester up to four semesters/six trimesters depending upon the gravity of the misconduct. Hostel residents under such punishment shall vacate the hostel immediately. Re-admission after the punishment period may be allowed only on submission of a bond of good conduct and satisfactory academic progress subject to approval of the competent authority.
  • A student placed under conduct probation or rustication may face restrictions related to re-registration, hostel accommodation, campus placement, or issuance of character certificate as decided by the disciplinary authorities.
  • In serious cases of indiscipline occurring during the final semester, the competent authority may consider the case on compassionate grounds subject to written apology, security deposit, fine, and fulfillment of conditions imposed by the institution.
  • Students found guilty of severe misconduct may also be debarred from future admission, hostel facilities, or employment opportunities within the institution.

🚷 Rules Regarding Expulsion of Students

Students involved in serious acts of indiscipline, misconduct harmful to the academic environment of the institution, or repeated violations while under Conduct Probation, Abeyant Rustication, or after readmission following rustication, may face expulsion from the institution.

Any student expelled under such circumstances shall be required to leave the college and hostel premises immediately. The disciplinary action may also be recorded in the student’s academic transcript, and the concerned student may be barred from seeking admission in any future programme or employment opportunity within the institution.

⚠️ Hostel Misconduct and Disciplinary Action

If any student is found involved in activities that disturb the discipline, peace, or environment of the hostel, the student may be removed from the hostel either for a fixed duration or permanently, depending upon the seriousness of the misconduct.

In such situations, the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the concerned student may be required to furnish a written bond/undertaking stating that the student shall reside at a suitable location outside a prescribed distance from the college campus and shall maintain proper discipline and behavior. Any further act of indiscipline may result in suspension, rustication, or expulsion from the institution.

The institution shall also maintain a permanent disciplinary record of every student, containing details of acts of indiscipline, punishments imposed, and any disciplinary actions later withdrawn or revoked.
